Being a caregiver for an elderly or disabled family member can become financially overwhelming very quickly. If you are new to caregiving or are struggling financially, you will probably want to check out the site I found today. It’s called BenefitCheckUp. Enter some basic income and family information and you get an impressive list of services available in your area based on your family’s situation and financial need. They tell you how and where to apply, what documentation you will need and even provide the applications when possible.
Some of the services include housing assistance, emergency food help, phone bill assistance (or free cell phone) medical and prescription drug programs, Alzheimer’s assistance programs, nursing home support services, home weatherization programs, and even tax credits you may be eligible for.
One thing that came up in my list that I didn’t know about and thought was pretty cool is information on how to get an America the Beautiful Access Pass. The Access Pass offers a free lifetime entrance permit to blind or disabled people to visit national parks, monuments, and recreation areas which normally charge entrance fees. It also provides a discount on federal use fees for facilities and services such as: camping, swimming, boat launching, and guided tours. The Access Pass admits the permit holder and a carload of up to 4 adults (children under 16 are free).
